In 2015 Max turned to medical cannabis. After a period of due diligence he founded a company in Portugal to cultivate, research, process and distribute medical-grade cannabis for the pharmaceutical industry.

It grew into one of the largest medical cannabis farms in Europe, with production built around EU-GMP pharmaceutical standards and laboratories in a dedicated science park.

He took part in a United Nations webinar on reclassifying cannabis for medical use. The UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs voted to recognise its medicinal value in December 2020.

His team also began early work on tailoring cannabis-based treatments to an individual’s genetics. That thread leads directly to the research institute.
